Atrium II, Gateway Arcade – Lee Sung Ok Solo Exhibition
Under the theme “Sound of Nature”, Lee Sung Ok seeks to offer healing and fresh energy by reviving nature that is disappearing in the city through reproducing living creatures, such as insects like lightning bug, dragonfly, butterfly and honey bee, etc., with materials familiar to city-dwellers. Stainless steel, for example, is a material that she uses often; it can not only express the shapes and forms of insects, but also reflect the surroundings like a mirror to create a connection between viewers and the artworks. Nature and wildlife that are more and more distant from city-dwellers are drawn into the city by installing a huge fantastical lush garden with a pond where different creatures beautifully crafted in stainless steel spread their wings of life freely in joyous harmony. Celebrating the beauty and mystery of life with this therapeutic art installation, the artist hopes that man can appreciate the whispering sound of nature and enjoy harmonious co-existence with all living creatures in nature.
